PEOPLE BEHIND THE SOUND

André Fedorow

Founder · Editor-in-Chief · Presenter · Editorial

André Fedorow is the founder of Sound of Prog, radio presenter, producer and the man ultimately responsible for the fact that what started as “let’s do a bit of radio” has somehow evolved into a radio station, magazine, live player, schedule, its own chat platform and now Sound of Prog Plus. There may have been a slight problem with scope control. Behind the microphone, André presents shows including Rock Café, Parallel World, Unearthed – Echoes of Time, Stranger in a Strange Land and, together with his son David, Generations. His musical philosophy is reassuringly simple: Progressive Rock is wonderful, but occasionally there are perfectly respectable reasons to play Rock, Alternative, Pop or something nobody quite knows how to categorise. The Genre Police have so far failed to locate the studio. As founder, programme maker, interviewer and general technical troublemaker, André also develops much of the infrastructure behind Sound of Prog – usually beginning with the sentence “I’ve got an idea…”, a phrase now regarded by the rest of the station as an early-warning system. Over the years he has interviewed musicians, produced specials, built collaborations and somehow persuaded people such as Pete Jones to join him for broadcasts involving Progressive Rock, Douglas Adams, Towel Day and an entirely irresponsible amount of British nonsense. Nobody intervened. Lessons were not learned. In short: radio maker, music obsessive, occasional developer and founder of Sound of Prog. Still firmly convinced that if something can be made slightly more complicated, considerably more ambitious and accompanied by a 17-minute Mellotron solo, it probably should be. And frankly, at this point it would be rather silly to stop.

PEOPLE BEHIND THE SOUND

Holger Stötzel

Editorial · Curator · Presenter

Holger Stötzel has been one of Sound of Prog’s long-standing companions, joining the team in 2022 as an editor and musical curator. Above all, however, Holger is a genuine music lover and dedicated Hi-Fi enthusiast – with a CD collection of such proportions that most people would probably start consulting a structural engineer about the floor. His passion extends beyond Progressive Rock to music itself – and, naturally, to hearing it reproduced as well as humanly possible. Holger enjoys digging deeper, discovering albums and artists beyond the usual suspects and bringing those finds into the musical world of Sound of Prog. And every now and then, he even leaves the relative safety of his music collection and takes over the airwaves himself with a show on Sound of Prog. In short: music lover, Hi-Fi enthusiast, collector and walking musical archive. If there’s a CD that appears to have vanished from the face of the Earth, there’s a statistically reasonable chance Holger owns it.

Uwe Zickel

Presenter · Editorial

Uwe Zickel aka Rivertree has been deeply rooted in the international Progressive Rock scene for many years. As a long-time writer and Special Collaborator at ProgArchives, he explores established artists as well as new and independent bands – preferably those whose songs last longer than the average lunch break. His particular passion is discovering music beyond the usual paths. On Sound of Prog, Uwe presents ProgEntry, featuring current releases, exciting newcomers and carefully selected gems from across the wonderfully diverse world of Progressive Rock. In short: he finds the musical treasures so you don’t have to. A remarkably sensible arrangement.

PEOPLE BEHIND THE SOUND

Brian Dade

Presenter

Brian Dade originally comes from Hastings, England, and now lives in south-west Germany. His love affair with radio began at an early age, listening to Radio Caroline on a small transistor radio under his pillow – presumably one of the more stylish ways to develop both poor sleeping habits and excellent taste in music. After presenting shows for European Klassic Rock and AiiRadio, Brian devoted much of his radio work to Progressive Rock. He has a particular passion for supporting independent, unsigned and small-label artists – precisely the sort of music that tends to make mainstream radio slightly nervous. Brian was also involved in organising the Prog The Castle Festival in Heidelberg and today presents Hot Plate on Sound of Prog. His mission remains refreshingly straightforward: find interesting music, give it airtime and make sure great bands aren’t left unheard simply because they don’t happen to have a marketing department with fourteen people in it.

PEOPLE BEHIND THE SOUND

Pete Jones

Presenter

Pete Jones is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter and the creative force behind Tiger Moth Tales – although “multi-instrumentalist” feels suspiciously like an attempt to save space. Keyboards, piano, guitar, bass, saxophone, recorders, whistles, percussion and assorted other objects capable of producing a noise have all found their way into Pete’s musical toolkit. He started playing piano at the age of four and has since become a familiar figure in British Progressive Rock, performing with Camel, Red Bazar and other projects alongside his own Tiger Moth Tales work. Since 2015, Pete has also presented Tales From The Tiger Moth, combining Progressive Rock, musical discoveries, his own cover versions and acoustic performances with a sense of humour that was quite clearly manufactured somewhere on the British Isles. Pete has become very much part of the extended Sound of Prog family, including special broadcasts with André – such as our Towel Day adventures, where Progressive Rock, Douglas Adams and British nonsense were allowed to occupy the same radio programme without adult supervision. In short: musician, radio presenter, storyteller and Chief Moth. And quite possibly one of the few people where you’re never entirely sure whether the next thing will be a Prog epic, a Genesis cover or a completely unnecessary remark about towels. Which is precisely as it should be.

PEOPLE BEHIND THE SOUND

Dieter Hoffmann

Presenter

Dieter Hoffmann is a musician, songwriter, producer, Prog connoisseur and the creative force behind starfish64 – a project he founded in 2006, originally as a vehicle for his singer-songwriter work, which then proceeded to make the rather Prog-like decision of becoming increasingly difficult to categorise. Over the years, starfish64 evolved towards Progressive Rock and New Art Rock, eventually developing from a solo project into a full band. Dieter writes and composes, sings, plays guitar and keyboards, and has also handled substantial parts of the production, mixing and mastering. In 2026, starfish64 celebrates an impressive 20 years of musical existence. Beyond making music himself, Dieter has also been active for many years as a knowledgeable writer and reviewer within the Prog scene. In other words, he knows Progressive Rock from both sides: the relatively safe position of someone discussing it – and the considerably more dangerous position of someone actually making it. At Sound of Prog, Dieter brings exactly that combination to The Atomic Hearing Aid: musicianship, curiosity and a rather comprehensive understanding of just how broad the definition of Prog can become when nobody is watching. In short: musician, radio presenter, writer and Prog enthusiast. Dieter makes music, writes about music and then plays music on the radio. So far, we have found remarkably little evidence that he ever does anything else.

Larne Peters

PEOPLE BEHIND THE SOUND

Larne Peters

Presenter

Larne Peters is a radio presenter, Prog enthusiast and musical explorer with a remarkably long-standing relationship with anything that refuses to fit neatly into three minutes and three chords. Born in the mid-1960s, his musical journey initially began with German Schlager – an experience he appears to have survived. At the age of 15, Larne decided it was time for what he describes as “real” music. Unfortunately, the early 1980s had other ideas, with Neue Deutsche Welle and Punk getting in the way first. Progressive Rock would have to wait a little longer. Since then, Larne has been active in the Prog scene for many years, including ProgAlley, as a presenter for Progzilla Radio, and as an interviewer of numerous musicians. His attention isn’t reserved for the obvious names either: new releases, lesser-known artists and fresh musical discoveries are very much part of the territory. On Sound of Prog, Larne presents New Born, dedicated to new music and discoveries from across the world of Progressive Rock. In short: Larne finds new Prog, talks to the people who make it, and then plays it on the radio. A surprisingly sensible career path for someone whose musical journey began with German Schlager. We consider the rehabilitation entirely successful.

Erich Robbers

PEOPLE BEHIND THE SOUND

Erich Robbers

Presenter

Erich Robbers, known to many as Kerbinator, is a music journalist, reviewer and passionate explorer of the somewhat heavier regions of the musical map. As the man behind Rock Castle Franken, he has spent many years immersed in Rock and Metal – from Progressive and Power Metal to the countless subgenres presumably invented to ensure record shops never run out of shelf labels. Erich doesn’t simply listen to music: he writes extensively about it, reviews new releases and regularly turns his attention to artists beyond the obvious big names. His reviews span many years and cover an impressive range of international bands and releases. At Sound of Prog, Erich brings precisely that musical instinct with him – and occasionally things are allowed to become considerably heavier. Progressive Rock, after all, cannot survive entirely on Mellotrons, flutes and thoughtful gentlemen standing on hills contemplating the meaning of the universe. In short: music journalist, Rock & Metal enthusiast and dedicated musical treasure hunter with an ear for everything beyond the obvious. If a new album appears somewhere, there’s a reasonable chance Erich has already heard it, written about it – and can explain why the guitars on track seven really needed another two decibels. 😎

David Ryan Fedorow

PEOPLE BEHIND THE SOUND

David Ryan Fedorow

Presenter

David Ryan Fedorow represents the youngest generation at Sound of Prog – and provides at least some highly unscientific evidence that good musical taste may, in fact, be hereditary. His father supports this theory with suspicious enthusiasm. David regularly joins André behind the microphone and has already made it quite clear that he isn’t merely decorative junior staff. Whether on Generations, the considerably faster-paced Espresso, or other father-and-son radio adventures, David brings his own musical taste, ideas and, most importantly, the perspective of a younger generation to Sound of Prog – occasionally reminding the station that music history did not, in fact, end in 1973. That interplay between father and son is precisely what makes their broadcasts special: two generations, different perspectives and fortunately enough musical common ground to remain on speaking terms afterwards. In short: co-presenter, musical explorer and the youngest member of the Sound of Prog crew. Also one of the very few people at the station who can disagree with the founder without fear of consequences. Well... most of the time. 😎❤️

Claudia Kanzler

Editorial

Claudia has an excellent ear for music and a particular fondness for those little hidden gems that have successfully managed to avoid the mainstream. Which, in Progressive Rock, probably counts as a perfectly normal professional qualification. She also brings radio experience to the table and, as PR Manager for Achelas, knows the other side of the music business as well: PR, social media and generally making sure that excellent music is heard by someone other than the artist, their mother and three unusually attentive cats. At Sound of Prog, Claudia joins our editorial team, keeping an eye out for exciting new releases and the stories behind them – and helping us drag even more great music into the daylight. Naturally, we haven't told her how enormous the pile of unheard Prog albums already is. She might not have joined.

Yvette Chevalier

Social Media Manager

Yvette Chevalier is a enthusiastic networker and social media devotee. She connects people, builds relationships and makes sure Sound of Prog gets noticed beyond our wonderfully peculiar musical community. She discovered Progressive Rock as a complete newcomer. A remarkably brave move into a musical world where songs regularly last 20 minutes and the chorus is occasionally reported missing. As our Social Media Manager, Yvette brings fresh energy to Sound of Prog's online presence. Whether she's mastered every time signature remains a mystery. But she certainly knows how to reach people. And she hasn't resigned yet. We consider that an excellent sign.

News Editorial

Daniel Eggenberger knows Progressive Rock from more than just his record collection. Since 2002, he's been a keyboardist and songwriter with Swiss Art Rock band COSMOS, occasionally contributing vocals too. The band's unmistakable Pink Floyd influence probably explains why Daniel doesn't start checking his watch halfway through a ten-minute guitar solo. He's equally at home behind the scenes. His experience with the Swiss Prog portal Proggies has given him an editorial perspective on the world of bands, releases and musical discoveries. At Sound of Prog, Daniel brings a rather useful combination of musical expertise and Prog media experience. We're delighted to have him aboard. Particularly as we now have someone who can explain complicated time signatures without having to summon a mathematician.
